Gas Fire & Stove Questions

Gas fires should be serviced every year, and any new fire or stove needs a carbon monoxide alarm in the same room. Below we cover servicing, costs, back boilers, wood burners and CO alarms. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

How often should a gas fire be serviced?

Once a year, just like your boiler. A yearly service checks the fire is burning safely and that fumes are going up the flue. Landlords must have every gas appliance checked each year.

How much does a gas fire service cost?

A gas fire service typically costs £60 to £90. If we service your boiler at the same visit, it’s typically £120 to £160 for both.

Can you remove an old gas fire and back boiler?

Yes. We remove old back boilers and fires, fit a new combi boiler elsewhere in the home, and either fit a new fire or make the fireplace safe. See our new boiler prices.

Can I have a wood burner in Manchester?

Yes, but most of Greater Manchester is a smoke control area. That means you need a smoke-exempt (Defra-approved) stove, or you can only burn authorised smokeless fuel. We’ll help you choose the right stove for your home.

Do I need a carbon monoxide alarm?

Yes. In England, a CO alarm is required in any room where a new or replacement fixed combustion appliance is fitted, such as a stove or gas fire (gas cookers are the exception). We fit one as standard.

Does a gas cooker have to be fitted by a Gas Safe engineer?

Yes. By law, gas cookers and hobs must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Many retailers deliver the cooker but don’t connect it, so we can do that for you.
