Is a Heat Pump Right for Your Home?

How much does a heat pump cost?
A typical air source heat pump installation costs £8,000 to £14,000 before the grant. With the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, many homes pay £500 to £6,500.
Am I eligible for the £7,500 grant?
You need to own the property in England or Wales, be replacing gas, oil, LPG or direct electric heating, and use an MCS-certified installer. Homes heated by oil or LPG can currently get £9,000 until 31 March 2027. Read our full guide to Boiler Upgrade Scheme eligibility.
Will a heat pump keep my home warm in a Manchester winter?
Yes. Modern air source heat pumps work well below freezing. The key is correct sizing and a well-designed system, which is why we always carry out a full heat loss survey first.
Will I need new radiators?
Sometimes. Heat pumps run at lower temperatures than boilers, so some rooms may need larger radiators. Your survey shows exactly which ones, if any.
Are heat pumps noisy?
Modern units are quiet, similar to a fridge hum up close. We position the outdoor unit to meet noise rules and keep it away from windows and neighbours where possible.
Do I need planning permission?
Most air source heat pumps count as permitted development in England, so you don’t need planning permission. Listed buildings and some flats are exceptions. We’ll check for you.
