All the main manufacturers make reliable boilers. The right size and type for your home, a good installation and a yearly service usually matter more than the name on the front.
Size & type first
A combi, system or regular boiler should be chosen on your home’s heat loss, hot water use and number of bathrooms. An oversized or wrong-type boiler costs more to run, whatever the brand.
Warranty depends on servicing
Most manufacturers need the boiler registered after installation and serviced every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer to keep the warranty valid. Keep your paperwork.
Parts & support
The major brands have good parts availability, so most repairs can be done quickly. Parts for older or discontinued boilers can be harder to find, which can make replacement the better value.

Which boiler brand is best?
There isn’t one best brand. Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Viessmann and the other main makers all produce reliable boilers. The right size and type for your home, a good installation and a yearly service usually matter more than the make.
Can you service or repair any make of boiler?
Yes. Gas Safe registered engineers can service and repair all the main makes, and older boilers from brands no longer made, as long as parts are available and the boiler is safe to use.
Will using a different engineer affect my manufacturer warranty?
Usually not, as long as the boiler is serviced every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer and the service is recorded. Check your warranty terms, as some extended warranties need the installer or the manufacturer to do the service.
Can I get parts for an old boiler?
Often, yes. Common parts for older models are widely available. If a key part is no longer made, a replacement boiler may be the more sensible option.
How much does a new boiler cost?
A like-for-like combi swap typically costs £1,800 to £3,500 fitted, depending on the brand, model and how much work is involved. Moving the boiler or converting from a tank-fed system costs more.
