Worcester Bosch makes gas, LPG and oil boilers, almost all under the Greenstar name. Older models such as the Greenstar i, Si and CDi are still in many homes and can usually still be serviced and repaired.
Combi boilers
Heating and hot water on demand with no cylinder. Current gas combis include the Greenstar 2000, Greenstar 4000, CDi Compact, 8000+ and 8000+ Style. A good fit for homes with one bathroom and good mains pressure.
System boilers
Work with a hot water cylinder, so several taps and showers can run at once. Models include the Greenstar 4000 System, i System Compact and 8000+ System. Often the better choice for homes with two or more bathrooms.
Regular boilers
Use a cylinder plus a cold water tank in the loft. Models include the Greenstar Ri and 8000+ Regular. Useful for replacing an old boiler without changing the whole system.
Worcester also makes oil boilers, such as the Greenstar Heatslave II and Danesmoor, for homes off the gas network. These need an OFTEC-registered technician rather than a Gas Safe engineer.

Terraces & smaller homes
The Victorian and Edwardian terraces of Chorlton, Didsbury, Levenshulme and Salford often have the boiler in a kitchen cupboard with limited space. Compact combis such as the Greenstar 4000 or CDi Compact are a common fit where there’s one bathroom and good mains pressure.
Larger & detached homes
Bigger houses in places like Altrincham, Hale, Bramhall and Saddleworth, with two or more bathrooms, often suit a system or regular boiler with a cylinder, or a higher-output model from the 8000+ range. The right choice depends on the home’s heat loss and hot water use.
Soft water, but sludge still matters
Most water in the North West is naturally soft, coming largely from upland reservoirs, according to United Utilities. That means less limescale in the boiler than in hard-water areas. Sludge and corrosion in the heating circuit are still the most common cause of problems, so inhibitor and a magnetic system filter are worth keeping on top of at every service.

Codes vary between Worcester models, so always check the manual for your boiler. These are some of the most common on Greenstar boilers. Never open the boiler casing yourself: anything beyond a reset or topping up the pressure is a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.

If you smell gas, don’t reset the boiler. Turn off the gas at the meter if it’s safe to, open windows and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Keeping your Worcester Bosch guarantee valid
Every Worcester Bosch boiler comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee. According to Worcester’s terms, the longest guarantee of up to 12 years is available on specific models when the boiler is fitted by a Worcester Accredited Installer with a Greenstar System Filter. Otherwise the standard guarantee applies, so check what your installer is offering. Whatever the length, the conditions are similar:
Registered after installation
The boiler should be registered with Worcester Bosch after it’s fitted. Your installer normally does this, but it’s worth checking you have the confirmation.
Serviced every year
An annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, recorded in the boiler’s service record, is a condition of the guarantee.
