Most Vaillant gas boilers are sold under the ecoTEC and ecoFIT names, from the entry-level ecoTEC pro to the ecoTEC exclusive. Older models, including earlier ecoTEC plus and ecoTEC pro boilers, are in many homes and can usually still be serviced and repaired.
Combi boilers
Heating and hot water on demand with no cylinder. Current combis include the ecoTEC pro, ecoTEC plus, ecoTEC exclusive and ecoFIT pure. A good fit for homes with one bathroom and good mains pressure.
System boilers
Work with a hot water cylinder, such as Vaillant’s uniSTOR, so several taps and showers can run at once. Often the better choice for homes with two or more bathrooms.
Regular (open vent) boilers
Use a cylinder plus a cold water tank in the loft. Vaillant calls these open vent boilers. Useful for replacing an old boiler without changing the whole system.

Vaillant boilers in Greater Manchester homes
Terraces & flats
In the terraces of Levenshulme, Chorlton, Stretford and Salford, and in city-centre flats, the boiler is often in a kitchen cupboard. A compact combi from the ecoTEC pro or ecoTEC plus range is a common like-for-like replacement where there’s one bathroom.
Family & larger homes
Semis and detached houses in places like Sale, Timperley, Bramhall and Prestwich with two bathrooms often suit a higher-output combi or a system boiler with a cylinder. The right choice depends on the home’s heat loss and hot water use.
Soft water, but sludge still matters
Most water in the North West is naturally soft, according to United Utilities, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Sludge and debris in the heating circuit are still a common cause of faults such as F.75, so inhibitor and a magnetic filter are worth checking at every service.
Common Vaillant fault codes
Vaillant boilers show fault codes starting with F. Codes can vary between models, so check the manual for your boiler. Never open the boiler casing yourself: anything beyond a reset or topping up the pressure is a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.

If you smell gas, don’t reset the boiler. Turn off the gas at the meter if it’s safe to, open windows and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Keeping your Vaillant guarantee valid
Every Vaillant boiler comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee. According to Vaillant, the longest guarantees, of up to 10 years on models such as the ecoTEC plus, ecoTEC exclusive and ecoFIT pure, and up to 7 years on the ecoTEC pro, are available when the boiler is fitted by a Vaillant Advance installer. Otherwise the standard guarantee applies, so check what your installer is offering. Whatever the length, the conditions are similar:
Registered after installation
The boiler should be registered with Vaillant after it’s fitted. Your installer normally does this, but check you have the confirmation.
Serviced every year
An annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, recorded in the boiler’s service record, is a condition of the guarantee.
Keep the paperwork
Keep the commissioning checklist, registration and service records together. You’ll need them if you ever make a guarantee claim.

Is it worth repairing an older Vaillant?
